This story of mine relates to the time when I was young fascinated to sit in a train.
It so happened that I was travelling from Delhi to Kerala. I had mild thoughts about diffrentiating person with religion, language etc. After around five hours of journey from Delhi, there came in a Sardarji to accompany us to our detination. When enquired he told that he was travelling till Trivandrum the last destination of the train. He told that he was going to Kerala as he found this place beautiful.
All the time he was talking in Hindi and sometimes in Punjabi. I had big doubts about he knowing the least about my mother tongue-Malayalam. All the while, when I have to talk to my parents and the person travelling with me who again was a malayali, we spoke in malayalam. Sometimes we made fun of his appearance and sometimes of his turban and attire.
Finally after three days of travel, we reached Kerala. We took leave from each other.
While bidding me GOOD-BYE, the sardarji called me near and said lovingly"ennikyum Malayalam Ariyaam Kutti" meaning "I also understand Malayalam". I was too ashamed to face him and say a word. First time in life that I felt so shameful upon doing something. All the while he sat there listening to my rebuke and not said a word.
it taught me the important lesson which I follow till today:"DO NOT UNDER-ESTIMATE ANYONE;IF YOU DO,DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK ". but remember that you would not get a loving SARDAR to teach you this important letter.
